This volume weaves myth and early history to trace the development of the Chinese world from creation to the Spring and Autumn era. It begins with Pangu (盘古), whose body transforms into sun moon rivers mountains and living things. That origin story links human form with natural order and hints at early medical thought. The narrative then treats the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors. Fuxi (福西) is credited with mapping trigrams and establishing marriage and clan customs. Shennong (神农) tests herbs at great personal risk and advances agriculture tools and remedies. Communities learn to make clothing build shelters and preserve fire. The archer Dayi (大义) shoots away nine suns and Dayu (大禹) endures long flood control work and passes his home without entering. From these labors the Xia dynasty (夏朝) emerges. Later Yin Qi (殷契) and the Shang transform production and chariot technology. Decadence under the last Shang ruler invites Shang Tang (商汤) to lead a rebellion that topples Xia and then establishes Shang rule. The Zhou ascend with support from Jiang Ziya (江子雅), whose political strategy unites vassals and forges alliances. Under King Wen (文王) and King Wu (周武王) the Zhou consolidate power and set early ritual and administrative patterns. The narrative follows Zhou consolidation under King Cheng and King Kang before royal decline forces an eastward move and the beginning of the Eastern Zhou period. The volume closes by sampling Spring and Autumn figures and episodes. Chu Zhuangwang (楚庄王) shows sagacity at a court banquet. Guan Zhong (管众) and Bao Shuya (抱书牙) help Qi rise. A story of Chong'er (冲儿) fleeing and later returning to claim his throne illustrates the perils and resilience of princely life. Confucius (孔子) appears as the formative teacher whose private instruction and compilation of classic texts shape later culture. Across myth ritual and biography the volume presents a continuous account of origins political change and cultural formation.
