上顎後牙因靠近鼻竇底，這部分發炎必然導致鼻竇炎。統計數字大約是第一大臼齒（35.6%），第二大臼齒（22％）。患者會自流鼻水。文獻上的討論不少，但大致都是用根管治療甚至拔牙來處理。理由是去除病因。這種治療方式本身很弔詭：明明處理的是牙齦，卻從牙齒動手。治療所以有效因為根管治療去除神經就等於是拔除牙齒。
