Women are the future of American business. According to a recent Nielsen report, women will control two-thirds of American consumer wealth in less than a decade.
And yet almost all business and success literature is still written for men—dispensing advice that doesn’t take into account women’s unique strengths or address the demands of family life on mothers.

Think and Grow Rich for Women is a powerful new book—from the award-winning author of Think and Grow Rich: Three Feet from Gold and coauthor of the multimillion-selling Rich Dad, Poor Dad. It combines Hill’s classic Thirteen Steps to Success with case studies of noteworthy women (including Sandra Day O’Connor, Maya Angelou, Katie Couric, Caroline Kennedy, Madonna, Oprah Winfrey, Margaret Thatcher, Condoleeza Rice, J. K. Rowling, Barbara De Angelis, Marianne Williamson  Angela Merkel, Mary Kay Ash, IBM CEO Ginni Rometty and many more), outlining a master plan for success for all women.

Using techniques outlined in Napoleon Hill’s iconic Think and Grow Rich, Hill devotee Lechter, founder of Pay Your Family First, challenges readers to take control of their financial destinies. Lechter is highly positive about women’s opportunities today, particularly from an education and corporate standpoint. She admits women still face difficulties, but they’re at a tipping point as the primary consumers, inheritors, and soon-to-be controllers of two-thirds of the consumer wealth in the United States. The book’s focus on women and a plethora of inspirational quotes from successful women (the only man Lechter quotes directly is Hill) makes a wonderful change from the male-dominated voice in similar titles. In addition to worksheets helping readers form their own strategies, Lechter guides readers through the program, focusing on faith (religious and otherwise), the acquisition of knowledge, and the importance of imagination and persistence. Success, she notes, means different things for men and women. With wealth, for example, women are more likely to consider what they can do with it rather than value its acquisition. The mantra of the benefits of purpose and hard work are appealing, and although the ubiquitous capitals and exclamation points may feel hokey to new readers, female Hill fans will be glad to see a book that acknowledges their ambitions.

Based on Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich, this book by Rich Dad, Poor Dad coauthor Lechter is designed with today's woman in mind. Replacing the traditional either/or work and life challenge with the concept of "one big life," the author presents an idea that encompasses family and vocational success. She offers a multitude of examples, including Sandra Day O'Connor and Phylicia Rashad, to illustrate Hill's 13 steps to greatness. While detailed instructions to develop skills necessary to achieve one's goals, such as persistence and imagination, are provided, the author also discusses cultivating one's subconscious mind and working with others for the attainment of a specific purpose. VERDICT Ideal for anyone beginning a career or needing a jump start.

Lechter, coauthor of the best-selling Rich Dad, Poor Dad (2007), revisits Napoleon Hill's 1937 self-help book from the perspective of modern women, who stand to inherit nearly $30 trillion in global wealth. Mindful that advice on wealth accumulation can be much the same for men and women, Lechter argues that the difference in women's values calls for a different perspective. But she takes issue with the notion that women need to seek a balance between home life and career, instead counseling women to replace guilt with power to make choices to create one big life filled with love, family, satisfaction, success, and significance. She begins each chapter with a contemporary review of Hill's book, then offers lessons on how women have applied his philosophy, drawing on interviews with successful women, from the founder of Mary Kay cosmetics to Condoleezza Rice to Sandra Day O'Connor. Following Hill's example, she offers a sisterhood MasterMind compendium of inspirational quotes from women and ends each chapter with prompts for formulating an action plan to further career goals.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2014, American Library Association.)
