She will come back to me, Tom Westonby tells himself. We'll be reunited. It has been five years since he's seen his beloved wife, Nicola Bekk. Five years since their wedding day – when he won her hand, but in doing so triggered the curse that has blighted the Bekk family for centuries. Nicola became a vampire, and fled, lest she harm the one she loves the most.
Since then, Tom has lived a remote life in Nicola's ancestral home in the woods, patiently awaiting the return of his vampire bride. But little does he know that someone else is returning to the village – someone who holds great power over the supernatural forces that dwell within it, waiting for revenge.
Soon, Tom will be forced to risk his life – and the lives of those he loves – in the fight against an ancient evil that cannot possibly be beaten . . .

Set five years after His Vampyrrhic Bride (2012), Clark's new novel is, if anything, even darker than its predecessor. Tom Westonby, who met and wed Nicola Bekk five years ago and caused her to become a vampire (which involved a Bekk family curse that, frankly, Tom really didn't put much stock in), has spent the time since then waiting for his bride, who promptly vanished after the curse manifested itself, to come back to him. When Nicola's niece comes to see him, with a story about her own mother being in a similar situation to Tom's (the girl's mother also having married a Bekk), Tom reluctantly agrees to help her mother's missing husbandmeaning he must, finally, stop waiting for his own wife to return and go searching for her. Oh, and on top of all this, there's the not-so-small matter of a local man whose death might, just might, have happened at Tom Westonby's hands. A gloomy, atmospheric, gothic-style horror story.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2013, American Library Association.)
