Quilter Martha Rose must patch together the clues to solve the murder of a cult leader in the California mountains . . .

Has Martha's fellow quilter and dear friend Birdie Watson become unraveled? Birdie and her new husband have decided to join the Mystical Feather Society, a spiritist group living on a commune in the mountains of Ojai, California. Before her free-spirited friend makes a huge mistake, Martha organizes a surprise visit to check out the commune. While white-robed members conduct a seancé in a glass yurt, their leader—Royal St. Germain—is nowhere to be found . . . until, that is, Martha and her friends discover him shot in their Winnebago. Now Martha must track down the killer and debunk the cult—before it's bye bye Birdie . . .

At a meeting of the Tuesday-morning quilters, Martha Rose is concerned when she learns her good friends Birdie and Denver Watson plan to sell all their assets and move to the Mystical Feather commune in Ojai, California, at the urging of Royal St. Germain, the commune's charismatic leader. Martha convinces the Watsons to visit the site before taking such a drastic step, so the three, plus good friend Lucy and two psychics, Paulina and Mansoor the Magnificent, travel to Ojai in the Watsons' Winnebago. Arriving at the commune while the residents are in a sance, the six decide to return later. Unfortunately, they find Royal St. Germain in the Winnebago, shot to death. When the psychics become suspects, they ask Rose to investigate, and the veteran amateur sleuth agrees. With the assistance of the Tuesday-morning quilters, she goes undercover, ultimately forcing the killer's hand as the body count mounts. Framed by details of quilting, tarot-card reading, and Rose's Jewish faith, this satisfying cozy, replete with full-bodied characters, will be relished by quilters.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2020, American Library Association.)
