This guidebook lists an activity for every day in the year, on the "best" day to do it. From the Junkanoo parade on New Year's Day in the Bahamas to a celebration of Hogmanay on New Year's Eve in Scotland, the list includes events both well known (the Cannes Film Festival, Oktoberfest, the Running of the Bulls) and obscure (the Pushkar Camel Fair in India, the Festa del Redentore in Italy, MassKara in the Philippines). It gives the best dates to take part in particular activities--one should track mountain gorillas in Uganda on January 23, visit Sinharaja National Park in Sri Lanka on April 2, or sail the Adriatic Sea on October 13. Each day's event is described in two or three paragraphs, with historical and cultural detail; most dates are accompanied by gorgeous photos of the appropriate festival, landscape, or animals. VERDICT Ideal for vacationers who are looking for something different to do or someplace different to go, or those in search of an idea for celebrating a special event based on a date; of interest to anyone who enjoys travel.--Rachel Owens, Daytona State Coll.
