Hathor Du Bell is on her own path to find love in the third installment of J. J. McAvoy's Regency romance series, following Aphrodite and the Duke and Verity and the Forbidden Suitor.
Hathor Du Bell has always fought to break free from the shadow left by her revered older sister, Aphrodite. It has been two years since Hathor’s debut, and while Aphrodite has married a duke and become a duchess, Hathor has been left with the ton’s most mediocre suitors. With the London season coming to a close, Hathor’s anxieties reach a peak. Will she be the only Du Bell unable to find her perfect match?
Then Hathor’s wildest dream comes true when the queen announces she’ll be presenting her nephew, Prince Wilhelm Augustus Karl Von Edward of Malrovia, during the weeklong society event at the Du Bells’ Belclere Castle. But the dream quickly crumbles when Hathor comes face-to-face with the prince, and he is nothing like she imagined.
As a flirtatious rivalry sparks a genuine romance, Hathor fights to make a name of her own despite society’s expectations of her. Amidst the grand balls and growing feelings, the final events of the season promise to be the most romantic and shocking of them all.

In the lovely third Du Bells romance (after Verity and the Forbidden Suitor), McAvoy returns to her diverse take on Regency England. As one of the younger daughters of the powerful Du Bell family, who are Black, Lady Hathor feels trapped in the shadow of her older sisters, Aphrodite and Verity, who can do no wrong. She hopes if she can secure an impressive match during her second season in London high society, she will finally garner the admiration of her family. Prince Wilhelm Augustus Karl Von Edward of Malrovia, fourth in line to the throne, seems a promising prospect—if only he weren’t a self-proclaimed “notorious rake” who views marriage as a prison after years of witnessing his unhappy parents. Hathor and Wilhelm meet at her parents’ Belclere Castle for a weeklong social and sparks fly. The more they get to know each other, the clearer it becomes that they are more than their titles. As Hathor learns to navigate the tense political world of royalty, Wilhelm comes to understand that love does not have to be painful. Readers will love Hathor’s spunk and Wilhelm’s personal growth as these two work together toward their happy ending. This keeps the series going strong. -

Hathor Du Bell's desire to marry well, like her duchess older sister, has gained her a reputation as a title hunter. But she hasn't met anyone she feels strongly about and the season is nearly over, so she welcomes the news that a prince is going to join her family's house party. Unfortunately, upon greeting their guests, she sees that said prince is none other than the stranger who recently insulted her in public. Prince Wilhelm of Malrovia is astounded that the title chaser he maligned doesn't suddenly forgive him once she learns that he's royalty. He is adamant about never marrying, but the less Hathor wants to be around him, the more he seeks out her presence. To the surprise of both Hathor and Wilhelm, alternately ignoring and pranking each other leads to their developing romantic feelings, which come with a large helping of societal criticism. In the midst of finding out who they are together, Hathor and Wilhelm also discover more about who they themselves are outside of the labels bestowed upon them by their families and society. VERDICT McAvoy's third Du Bell novel (following Verity and the Forbidden Suitor) is an entertaining historical romance.--Nicole Williams
