      PreS-Gr 2-Hansen pairs text with large-scale photos and illustrations. A few sentences per page explain each topic clearly and simply, with glossary words in a colored font for easy identification. Familiar activities, such as soccer and skateboarding, illustrate motion, while other everyday sights help to explain forces like gravity or magnetism. Children are featured in many of the photos along with an occasional adult. Visible light, heat conduction, and other concepts are shown in uncluttered diagrams. A "Let's Review!" section at the end provides a bulleted list of main ideas. VERDICT Solid introductory series for early elementary grades.
